The Mission

Democratizing Scientific Knowledge

🌐

The Knowledge Gap

India records 117 million daily Wikipedia views, yet the vast majority of scientific content remains locked in English — out of reach for most Indian-language readers. We are fixing this at scale.

🇮🇳

Language Empowerment

Inspired by the success of native-language knowledge platforms elsewhere in the world, we are building a lasting Indian-language scientific corpus for generations to come.

🔬

Scientific Coverage

From biological sciences and chemistry to biodiversity, species taxonomy, and landmark inventions — every domain covered in Indian languages.

How It Works

1
Pick an article
Choose a science topic from the task list or an English Wikipedia article that lacks an Indic equivalent.
2
Draft & translate
Write naturally in your language. Translate headings, infobox labels and template parameters too.
3
Cite & review
Add at least two reliable sources, proofread, and check links, images and categories.
4
Submit
Submit to SciWiki, link via Wikidata, and move to the target Wikipedia edition.

SciWiki: General Guidelines for Article Contributions

These guidelines outline the standards for creating and translating articles for the SciWiki project. All contributions must maintain high quality, consistency, and alignment with core Wikipedia policies. Meeting these criteria is necessary for SciWiki submissions but does not guarantee automatic acceptance by the respective Wikipedia language editions.

Quick checklist

  • ☐ At least 6 KB of readable text (excluding images, templates, infoboxes)
  • ☐ At least 2 reliable, independent sources with inline citations
  • ☐ At least 2 specific categories
  • ☐ At least 3 interlanguage links via Wikidata (where possible)
  • ☐ Infobox, headings and parameters fully translated
  • ☐ Images from Wikimedia Commons only
  • ☐ Proofread: grammar, facts, formatting, links

Content and style

  • Article length: Ensure a minimum of 6 KB of meaningful, readable text, excluding images, templates, and infoboxes.
  • Tone and language: Write in a clear, objective, and encyclopedic tone. Avoid literal, automated, or machine-like translations.
  • Translation completeness: Translate all relevant text, including section headings, infobox labels, and template parameters, into the target language.
  • Proofreading: Thoroughly review all submissions for grammatical correctness, factual accuracy, formatting consistency, and proper link functionality prior to submission.

Sourcing and policies

  • Core policies: Strictly adhere to fundamental Wikipedia guidelines, including Neutral Point of View (NPOV), Verifiability (V), Reliable Sources (RS), and rules regarding automated content.
  • References: Provide a minimum of two reliable, independent sources using proper inline citations.
  • Copyright and media: Use relevant images hosted on Wikimedia Commons. Any newly uploaded media must have verifiable copyright permissions and compatible open licensing before use.

Formatting and metadata

  • Infoboxes: Include an appropriate infobox where applicable, modeling the structure and parameters after the corresponding English Wikipedia article.
  • Categorization: Assign at least two specific and relevant categories at the bottom of the page to integrate the article into the encyclopedia.
  • Interlanguage links: Connect the article to equivalent pages in other language editions using Wikidata. Aim for a minimum of three interlanguage links where possible.
  • Authority control: Embed the {{Authority control}} template at the bottom of biographical or applicable subject pages, provided it is supported by the target wiki.
  • Date format: Standardize dates using the YYYY-MM-DD format for project tracking, while always respecting the specific date display conventions of the target Wikipedia edition.
